In this session, researchers from the University of Michigan will share takeways from interviews with environmental justice community organizations, media organizations, experts in the field of community engagement, and environmental funders in the Great Lakes region. These interviews investigate the relationships between communities combating environmental injustice and the media organizations covering these issues. You'll hear about the researchers' key findings and walk through their toolkit for equitable engagement, which includes a list of 15 goals for newsrooms and journalists covering environmental justice stories. You'll also receive recommendations that can be applied more broadly to folks working in community engagement and communications.
